About Me


Joelle Owusu is a writer and editor living in London. 
In 2016, she graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a BSc in Geology-Petroleum Geology before moving into publishing soon after. She joined Unbound - the world's first crowdfunding publisher, first as an editorial and publicity intern and then promoted to Junior Commissioning Editor. Her acquisitions include How to Come Alive Again by Beth McColl, This Party's Dead by Erica Buist, The Diary of Losing Dad by Emily Bevan, Cut From the Same Cloth? edited by Sabeena Akhtar and Sunday Times bestseller, Glittering a Turd by the late Kris Hallenga

From 2020-2022, she was non-fiction Commissioning Editor at Coronet, an imprint of Hodder & Stoughton. Her acquisitions include The Dennis Nilsen Tapes by Michael Morley, Bamboozled by Jesus by Yvonne Orji, Black and Great by Rene Germain, Reclaiming by Yewande Biala, Nero Prize shortlisted nature memoir, The Tidal Year by Freya Bromley and Sunday Times bestseller and GRAMMY winning memoir, FINDING ME by Viola Davis. 

Joelle currently works as Editorial Director and imprint head at #Merky Books, Cornerstone, Penguin Random House after a year as non fiction Editorial Director at Renegade Books, an imprint of Dialogue (Hachette UK).

She is a proud mentor to many writers, publishing hopefuls and publishing professionals, most recently with SYP. 

In July 2020, Joelle was selected as a Bookseller Rising Star.
She has also been a regular contributor on BBC Radio 5 Live since May 2019, recommending and reviewing books for the late-night weekend shows.
Her published work has appeared in Nasty Women (404ink, 2017), Mind Matters: Part II (Forward Poetry, 2017), Inspirational Idols (Forward Poetry, 2016).
